I really liked this app on my iOS devices especially on my iPad, then i purchased it here on Mac, and its still awesome, all of my VNCs are magically appeared on my Mac through iCloud, everything working smoothly, If youre looking for the BEST VNC solution, here it is, worth every penny.
So Ive been using Parallels solution to connect from my iPad to both my home and office computer and when I read the reviews on Screens I loved it - at last Ill be able to connect to my parents computer as well as my sisters and help them out easily. Since thats solution is for remote access I didnt had any idea that configuring the servers will be such a hard thing to do! While the parallels solution works without any hassle at - really Zero configuration for screens I need to do port forwarding and other things - that on my parents computer I couldnt even do! The GUI is great as well as the experience once you have it set up - but since setting it up is a real pain - this doesnt worth more then 2 stars. Once they will fix it I might consider give it another chance - for now its 50$ (Mac and iPad app) thrown away. #fail LT
I really want to like this app. It has a great user interface and renders the remote host beautifully. But it clearly has too many issues to give a good review to. I am unable to use right-click on my Red Hat Enterprise Linux remote host because after the context menu is displayed, moving the mouse in the slightest bit causes the menu to disappear. In addition, typing in a console window on my remote host causes the Sceens VNC client to disconnect. I was told to resolve this that I had to hide the local cursor, and while that did resolve the disconnect issue, it basically left the UI unusable with the mouse. I think this will be a nice product once they resolve all the issues with this current release (1.2) and I was told that they will fix a great many features in their next release (1.5) due out sometime this FALL, but until that happens I simply cant recomment this product. So here it is December 27, 2011 and Im still waiting for the next release, which was promised to be delivered in the Fall. So where is it? Im still sitting on the same old version, 1.2, of this software tht I spent my money on in which it is total unusable. The developer promised fixes in the next release and promised that would be in the Fall but we have yet to see anything resemling a new version. It is completely disappointing that you spend your money on what appears to be a good piece of software only to be disappointed and receive no support for the issues that the software has. My recommendation is to avoid this application completely. Real VNC is stable, fast, functional and free. Why spend the money on this application, which is not stable enough to use and clearly does not receive the promised updates that the developer advertises, when you can have Real VNC that works correctly for free. Here we go again with version 2.0. Its Feb. 21, 2012, How many months have gone by since I reported my issue? Far too long, thats how long! How excited I was that the new version was released and would potentially fix all the issues that I had with the previous version, but it is not so. Im still unable to right click and move the cursor at all because the context menu will disappear as soon as the cursor is moved. The result: Unusable. Dont waste your money. Clearly the developer(s) dont take major issue seriously. Save yourself $20 and just download RealVNC. Its fast, stable and free. Nov. 3, 2012 - Finally the developer has addressed my issue in release 2.1.3. But even though my original issue is resolved I still cannot recommend this product. THe remote screen renders slowly from my Redhat Linux server. It makes me feel as if I am using a 10 year old machine. Ive given up on screens all together and purchase iTeleport instead which performs exceptionally well and demonstrated none of the issues that this software does. Side by side, iTeleport performs Screens and makes it look very poor.
This seems like such a great idea but its WAY slow/slugish, especially for something that should be optomized for the mac. I have much better performance using Safari and the free version of LogMeIn. I was real excited about this but stopped using it after several bad experiences. I say dont buy this and check out LogMeIn for free. It will give you way more features and much better performace. This is all glitz but little substance.
It worked fine for a longtime but finding my connections gone on all devices was last straw. I go back to Apple Remote Desktop not sure what Ill use if any on iOS.
This version is really buggy. Im probably going to go back to a free VNC client.
i have spent several hours trying to get Screens to work but have had no success. Support is no help. Screens, it just "doesnt" work.
This app is pretty good when it is working. Unfortunately, most of the time instead of getting the remote desktop, you get an application crash. Its been like this for a very long time. I thought one of the updates would address this huge problem, but no such luck. There are other more stable remote desktop options in the app store. I would recommend avoiding this app (or the newer version theyve released). It is unreliable.
It works, but I don’t remember the last time I exited a screen w/o the app crashing.
I’ve been a Screens user since LogMeIn went to the subscription model. The 3.0 update included a lot of great & requested features. Kudos to the Screens team. Screens has always ‘just worked’ for me and that’s the biggest thing I ask of a program like this.
I love this app, but the new icon is so awful that I have to hide it inside a folder in launchpad. Please change it back!
Between the iOS app and this Mac app, Screens provides seamless VNC from in-network and outside network locations. ScreensConnect is a viable option for setting up no-fuss VNC for parents, relatives, etc. But this app supports complex SSH connections/keys as well, so it works for power users who care about security. Some minor initial glitches aside, this app seems to work very well and the developer seems to release frequent updates to address known issues. I’m very happy so far.
It’s ok if you just want to connect back to your home computer or help your aunt Myrtle send an email, but its not ready for small or medium business IMHO. It regularly loses settings. It’s ability to configure a router is questionable. Documentation is sparse, in particular anything that you might do to help it configure a modem. If you write to them asking for information, you’re ignored. My version just stopped loading screem images after 3 for some reason. I can still connect, but only by clicking on the name of the computer in the right side list. I just got the newest update on 5.4.14 but none of my issues are fixed, though it does seem faster.
Poor reliability and very slow. Feel like I wasted my money. I bought this as an alternative to the built-in Mavericks Back to My Mac, hoping for better reliability, but it turns out to be a lemon. Boo hoo.
Please improve it.
I have three Macs around the house and office and use Screens to manage all of them. Works great (on both Mac and iOS). Simple and easy to set up.
I purchased Screens so I could connect two home computers that are several miles apart. I never got it to work. I asked for support and received two emails with helpful tips but, unfortunately not the tips that resulted in a successful connection. I sent a third email asking for more help and perhaps a phone call and I have not heard from them since. I have exhausted all possibilities and the next step is to delete the app from both computers. Too bad! No, sorry I cannot recommend this app.
I have had some issues with it but I still have not been able to determine if the issues are related to my hardware or the software. I will say that when it works it works well it just doesn’t always work. Load times can be slow and multscreen support is bit hit or miss.
I use screens almost every day to manage windows and OS X machines. The auto discovery and tunneling service they provide is very helpful. I can’t recommend Screens enough.
